USA Hockey announced today that its yearly nationwide initiative Hockey Weekend Across America – now in its 12th year – will expand to a week-long celebration and take place from Feb. 17-24, 2019.
“We are thrilled to expand Hockey Weekend Across America to a full week moving forward,” said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey. “Two years ago, we commemorated the 10th anniversary of Hockey Weekend Across America with a week-long format that was received extremely well and having an entire week provides further opportunity to do some fun and creative things to celebrate and advance the sport."
Each day of Hockey Week Across America will include a theme, including individual days to salute players (Monday), coaches (Tuesday), officials (Wednesday) and local rinks (Thursday), as well as the traditional themes of Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey Day (Friday), Try Hockey Day (Saturday) and Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes (Sunday). Kicking off the week-long celebration will be Hockey Day in America on Sunday, Feb. 17.
NOTES: Hockey Week Across America was created by USA Hockey in 2008 to engage the hockey community in celebrating the sport of hockey at all levels and exposing the sport to new audiences ... For more information on Hockey Week Across America, click here.
